Herrick Barn Mason
This gambrel-roof, 30' x 49' pegged barn built by
the Mattison family, dates back to 1890 and was used until 1980 for cattle and
hay. An addition built in 1916 housed horses. The Herrick's bought 20 acres and
the farm buildings in 1989. By this time, after being used by renters, the barn
needed substantial work. One corner had completely lost its support, joists were
rotting, and part of a wall had collapsed. Restoration began in 1990 and
continued in phases through 2006. Today the barn is a welcome setting for "Art
in the Barn" which draws large numbers of exhibitors and visitors each year.
