Presidents Award

The Presidents Award was created by past President Brad Brogren
as a way of recognizing individuals who have made
outstanding contributions to barn preservation.

William ‘Bill’ Kimball was honored with the 2011 President’s Award for his long and dedicated contributions to barn preservation in Michigan and the nation. Bill retired from MSU Extension as a resource development specialist where he assisted in the development of a state-wide series of barn rehabilitation workshops in 1992 and 1993. These workshops demonstrated a strong interest and in 1995 the Michigan Barn Preservation Network was formed as a nonprofit organization. Bill was a founding member and has continued as a mentor to MBPN since that time. He has authored a National Trust for Historic Preservation publication on starting barn preservation organizations at the state level and in 2006 he was involved in establishing the National Barn Alliance.

Past honorees have been Vera Wiltse, 2010; Jack Worthington, 2009; and Russ Mawby, 2008.
